I turn my 2004 Discovery off and remove the key, wait about a minute and the car dashboard beeps 3 times and all the lights (such as engine, oil, ABS, ect.) inside the dash go as well including the light around the keyring. It acts almost as if the key was reinserted and turned.

 

How long does it stay lit?

 

it stays on for good. As it turns out I disconnected the battery overnight in fear that it would go dead, and discovered the problem gone after I reconnected the next morning.

 

So the system just needed to be reset?

 

I bet the ignition switch is sticking.

 

I guess the reset worked...I'll just keep an eye on the ignition switch
