Default Dexron III alternative?

Servicing the trans today or tomorrow and can't find dexron III... so do I substitute with dexron VI or "dexron III compatible" multi vehicle ATF?

I always use/recommend Red Line products, their recommendation is ATF 4. You can get it off Amazon.

Dexron 3 was discontinued with the introduction of Dex 4. Dex 4 is fully compatible and won't cause any issues.

Valvoline Max Life! Shifts like butter and is compatible. Also add Lucas Trans conditioner. Just did mine a month or so ago.

+1 on the Lucas additive. My fluid was completely burnt and my tranny was shakier than Micheal J. Fox, but a full fluid change and the Lucas oil has all but completely remedied what I would have assume was a trashed transmission.

i just rock the walmart dexron fluid. like 10 bucks a gallon and works like a champ. i change fluids pretty regularly on my vehicles and have never had issues with any of the super tech brand fluids. Granted i understand its "lower" quality but i pick and choose my battles and don't use super tech fluid for every car depending on what its purpose is.
