how are you making out? I just noticed this, read the 3rd post one page one.
What did you do with your DII today?

I had a broken fan shroud on a D1 that had a flimsy piece at the bottom, got sucked into the fan blades and took out my radiator. If it's not your motor mounts, if might have been the cracked shroud, or a combo. The D2 shrouds have a very thin/narrow section towards the top that is prone to break.

thanks for checking in guys! Slowly but surely I'm chipping away at it. The new radiator is installed, replacement intake tube also installed, new belt is in. I have the following to do:

- Put in all the hoses and thermostat
- put in the airbox (airbox cover has not yet arrived)
- re-install the new battery (bought a duralast gold today from autozone)
- Solder the MAF connector back together
- put in the coolant (just purchased 3 gallons of peak performance today)
- put in the fan and viscous clutch
- put in the fan shroud

Abran, I tend to agree with you. I've inspected the motor mounts closely and they do not look cracked. All the rubber is solid with no seams. I will certainly jack up the engine to make sure before I drive it, but as I mentioned in another post, my original fan shroud has always been half broken (i just didn't know that since this was my first d2) so it is entirely possible it got sucked into the fan.

I'm also still debating whether to do anything about the bent power steering tube. I have a new tube on order, yet I'm positive the fan did not create the kink in the tube, it was there before.

My D2 steering has always felt heavy. I like it that way. My wife's car, a ford flex, has very light steering and I don't like that much. I'm wondering if I fix this kink, if it will make the steering get lighter.

I see you are making good progress. Be sure to get the 50/50 coolant.

As for the kinked power steering line. As long as it is not restricting the flow of fluid to the pump (and I do not believe that line does) then you should be fine. I personally would replace it because I wouldn't be able to sleep at night knowing it was like that.

Ha! You are slightly OCD too. I spent a good 30 minutes cleaning all the grime under the airbox even though once the airbox goes back in, I'll never be able to see it.

So yes, the kinked hose will bug me until I replace it, I'm sure.

Oh yes, I'm OCD to the max. It's actually a good thing with these rovers as they need lots of love and attention as it is.

does anybody know if the lower fan shroud can be put back in after the hoses and fan are connected? I'm 90% done, I have all the hoses clamped in except at the top and the fan is back on. Lower fan shroud has still not arrived from eBay. I was about to refill with coolant, but it occurred to me that would be dumb if I had to take off the hoses to put the shroud back in. thanks!

All of the hoses and belt can stay on but you will need to remove the fan/clutch I believe. If you have already taken it off then it should be easy to just remove the fan, install the lower fan shroud, and put the fan back on. The upper fan shroud can go on and off with the fan still attached, but the lower is different.

Thanks! that is good. At least I can make some progress today presumably even I drive around with no fan (just around the block to make sure everything is OK, as long as I have my eye on my ultragauge and stop driving once it gets to temperature (194), I should be ok right?
