Ok, I had posted in another thread and have been directed to this thread.

I've got an 04 Disco and the rear door (driver's side) lock will not lock/unlock through the system. Can manually lock/unlock only. It's only this door. I've been told it's probably the actuator. Just want to confirm this might be the case and find out how much a replacement will be and how difficult it is to replace.

Thanks.

You can either fix it yourself with this https://landroverforums.com/forum/di...-new-one-3375/ or if you don't want to hassle a new actuator will run you between $95(rebuilt) - $250 (dealer) Rovers north, Atlantic British ect run some where in between that though.

Is it safe to say it is the actuator though?

Yes, those symptoms point to the actuator as the problem.

Just had the same driver door issue happen to me as well, so I picked up the Disco 2 Door lock Pin from these guys. I just installed it today and it worked perfectly! The rover now locks like it should with the key.
I looked around for quite a while and ended up getting the lock rod here because it was the cheapest. Just an FYI.

Default How to remove the actuator unit from door

My 2003 D2 passenger side lock won't operate by key or the dashboard button. But ok by manually push the sill button down and manually open from inside. Reading everyone's posts, it seems I had the issue of defect actuator unit (most like a bad motor...). Last week, the window regulator broken…, so I began the efforts to check both.
For the window regulator issue, I followed another wonderful posts on this site, removed the door panel, window motor/regulator unit, it was indeed the bad regulator (one of the plastic roller broken)… so that was clear.
Then I started the efforts of removing the latch & motor assembly (the actuator unit)...
The Rover manual lists the following steps:

1. Remove front door frame.
2. Release exterior handle control rod from latch.
3. Release and disconnect sill button lock rod from latch.
4. Disconnect multiplug from motor.
5. Remove 3 Torx screws securing latch andmotor assembly to door.
6. Remove latch and motor assembly throughaperture in the lower section of the door.
7. Disconnect release cable from latch andremove latch and motor assembly.

Read the post here, for D2 there was no need to remove the door frame…so for Step 1 I didn't go ahead to remove the door frame as door panel & regulator are all out; I did Step 2, 4, 5 ok; Step 6, 7 seemed straight forward. But I couldn’t figure out how to do Step 3 “Release and disconnect sill button lock rod from latch”.

Do I need to take the door frame out? How to do Step 3 ‘release and disconnect sill button lock rod from latch”?

Thanks you so much in advance for your help!!!

Tony

(trying to attach the diagram on Rover's manual for the 7 steps, and a picture of my car door now. Not sure how to do it.)

Hi,

Can someone explain me how to remove the cover to get to the motor, I'm afraid of breaking it.

Ya, I'm wondering the same.Does the frame need to come out on the passenger side?
Thanks

I just replaced both passenger sides yesterday(actually my wife did most of it).

She removed the frames but used a paint pen to mark their exact location(straight line marks at all exposed juncture sections). We did this repair before and the frame had wind noise. This time it worked perfect.

I guess you could do it without removing the frames, but it's more straight forward with them out.

I replaced my driver side actuator without removing the frame. It was a bit of work, though. I did remove the bottom bolt to the frame and pulled it back just enough to wiggle the actuator out. It was much easier putting the new one in. 5 working locks now!!
