Default Discovery 2 td5 ECU problem

Hi All,

I’m m after a bit of advice if possible, I have a 2002 D2 td5 manual, and last week it wouldn’t start after being sat for 4-5 days, it will crank/try to turn over but refuses to start, I’ve tried a new battery and checked all the fuses, even replaced the interior fuse box as I know they are prone to getting wet due to leaking sun roofs, a friend put his Nanocom on it today and it comes up with a communication error when trying to talk to the engine ecu the other ecu’s communicate fine, bcu, slabs etc... I’ve checked the red plug on the ecu and that was also clear, the injector loom was replaced about 2 years ago, I am told these ecu’s are quite reliable unless they go swimming so I am left thinking this is a wiring issue so I have checked as much wiring as I can see, behind both fuse boxes and behind the glove box but all looks ok, also when I turn the key to position 2 the HDC and engine temp light come on, go off and then come on and stay on, not sure if the last bit is relevant... has anyone had this issue or know of any common points I might have missed.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated as I am stuck for ideas now.

Many thanks,
Dan

You'll probably not get much help here. This site/forum is mainly US members...and diesels weren't available here, just petrol. Sounds like you've covered the issue of fuses and fuse box...me...l'd drop the ECM...remove cover...looking for moisture or corrosion.

I've got a bit of knowledge about the 2.5TD and 200tdi...in my defender...but have never seen or laid my hands on a td5.
