I have a 1997 Discovery (I) with the 4.0L engine. I also have a wrecked1998 Range Rover with the 4.6L engine. Can I swap both the engine and transmission from the Range Rover to my Discovery? The Range Rover transmission shifts much better.

I know the engine i a simple drop in conversion. I would think that the transmission would be a pretty simple swap also. You may need the computers from the RR also but I don't know for certain.

 

You will need the transmission ECU since the DI uses a old style non electronic transmission.
You will also need the engine ECU.

 

Are the ECU swaps just a matter of changing the units or are there wiring modifications that will be involved?
