Default Discovery Engine Swap

Greetings All-

I own a 1995 Discovery with the 3.9 V8. I am interested in swapping the engine with something more powerful to assist with all of the weight being added in bumpers ect... My question is then, what is a better, economical decision- discoII swap or a 4.6 RR swap? I have an automatic transmission as well. Thanks in advance

I would suggest if you want more power that you find a 4.6 short block, adapt it so it will drive a distributor and us the rest of your 3.9 parts. As for the heads, if you really want to pick up the power, have the ports reworked and opened up and then consider eith a 4.6 cam or a little beefier Crowler cam.

There are 4.6 blocks out there, just can't remember where offhand, that will have a distributor drive. The heads are the same from 3.9 to 4.6 in the Disco's. You can't just swap motors with anything above what you are. They went to coil packs in 96. Search motor swap on here and you should find some links. Let me know if you can't find anythig...

Does anybody ever do Chev 350 swaps into these things? I know thereused to beoutfits that put together conversion kits to convert Jaguars over to 350's. I guess the bell housing would be the toughest part. But, is it in any way similar to a small block chevy?

Beyond that, what go-fast goodies are available for your existing motor? I see lots of stuff in Land Rover Monthly. I'm just asking the questions, I've never seriously looked into hopping up a L/R.

A 350 won't fit, and if it did, the driveline won't take the torque.

Some people have used chips and like them. I have also heard of porting the heads and changing the cam out. Not really much you can do. YOu can drop a 4.6 bock in , along with the heads and you should get more than enough kick...

I have a 4.0 with 100K and I got a warning for excessive acceleration a few days ago. I need new shocks and it lit up the tires for a few feet. I have synthetics all the way through, Bosch +4 and Magnacors, and I have cut off my resonator and pulled the silencer off the airbox. I can outrun my buddy's 2000, but he has it totally decked out with options...
