discovery II transmission lights
2004 discovery se7 4.6l automatic
Went to leave work today and I walked into a dead battery situation. No problem as we have a fleet charger here so I hooked that up and after a few minutes the truck started fine. I did notice that after the start the green 'M' (manual) and green 'S' (sport) lights were flashing together.
I drove home with it like that and left it run while I consulted the manual.
manual states that this indicates an electrical fault with the automatic gearbox and to seek qualified assistance if the lights continue to flash after the truck has been brought to a halt, shut off then started again.
Well I did shut it off & re start but the lights are still flashing.
I'm guessing I may have blown a fuse somewhere starting the truck with the fleet charger.
So I'm seeking qualified assistance, anyone here have any ideas?

There is 99% nothing wrong with your gearbox.
The Gearbox ECU is VERY voltage sensitive, so if your battery is old / on the way out (sounds like it is) then it will throw the M&S lights at you.
How old is the battery ? does it often go flat ? maybe time for a new one

Thank you very much fellas. Battery replaced = happy Rover. All is back to normal.
Observations;
While the (M) & (S) green lights were flashing on my drive home I noticed other disturbing things...
- the l.e.d. [D]rive gear selection indication was also flashing
- as was the little red led next to the shifter when in drive only
- it actually appears gearbox ECU was not functioning; steering stiffer (more front wheel drive?), more engine rpms required at normal speeds 90 km/h =3100rpm on level highway.
Normally Rover does 90 at 2100 rpms and power comes on at 2500. With the lights flashing it seemed the engine needed to work harder.
Thanks again guys.
