On most vehicles the rear bumper is bolted to the frame and are rated for 300 to 500 lbs tongue weight for towing, so I would think that if the brush guard is mounted to the frame then it would have no problem holding 35 lbs.

I've stood on my brush bar with no problems so I would bet you would be fine. Do you have the connections above the bar that connect to the bumper on the sides? Mine has four connection points, two on the frame and two that connect the brushguard to the bumper via hex bolts, but again its on my D2. If not you may want to see if you can add them... It would provide more support if you had to stop suddenly. Hope that makes sense, as you know I am mechanically slow and horrible with the terminology!

I get what you are saying.
When I get my winch bumper it wont be a problem but that will be awhile yet.
I think it will be fine on the brush guard.
