i got done with my head gasket replacement about 5am this morning. filled it with engine oil. then filled it with coolant and within 15-20 mins every bit of coolant had leaked out and i have no idea where it came from. the last shop that worked on it pretty much screwed me over. it overheated and they were supposed to fix all the coolant leaks and put in a thermo. upon start up, they told me i needed head gaskets so i decided to do that myself to save some $... now i have multiple (guessing) coolant leaks that were supposed to be fixed but weren't.

i havent had a chance to look over it again, but any ideas where they could be coming from?

 

you need to clean everything. and add some dye to the coolant so you can find where the coolant is coming from it can be coming from anywhere we won't be able to help you. or you need to find a new mechanic and have it pressure tested. just don't drive it anywhere if it is leaking that bad or you will do some serious damage.

 

I'm not sure how you can lose your coolant in 15 mins and not see where it is leaking, especially after you did all that engine work and know the engine well by now.

 

You did use a torque wrench AND tighten the head bolts in sequence?

 

yes i did everything correctly using a calibrated torque wrench and following the D2 workshop manual. im gonna get a pressure check done on it with a NEW mechanic

 

i bet it's a hose, not gaskets, if its leaking at that rate.

 

exactly what i was thinking because i never started it. therefore the coolant wasnt circulated through the block or heads right?

 

Did you use new head bolts?
