Drive Shaft Replacement
hey all. alright if you were following my last thread i was debating purchasing my 2001 Disco II.....well. i did. and i got a good price on it too. knowing what needed to be done was helpful so there were no surprises. so first on the list: front driveshaft. slight squeak from test drive until now, and i ended up having to drive about 1500 mi in the past 2 weeks (yeah i know) and she was perfect for the trip.
now my slight squeak has turned into that wonderful crunching/grinding/pee yourself noise and the problem would not only be the dried and rusting u-joint...it's also due to the sheared off socket which the joint goes into. oh yes. it's beautiful. (picture included) so! i'm pulling that out tomorrow and then actually going to dallas to swap it out for a reman. from the folks at Motorcars Ltd. and then drive back up at the end of the week and throw it back in.
My questions for your collective expertise: *WARNING* they might be stupid.
1. can i unbolt the front prop shaft and essentially cover it up and leave it for the week while i'm gone?
2. is it genuinely as simple as unbolting the existing, and then replacing with the reman. and bolting it back in, followed by greasing?
3. any other parts i need for this job besides the essential wrench and grease gun (and shop towels)?
danke.

Was going to link you to my thread, but you found it! Yes... pretty easy. An hour or so (whoever said 10 minutes in that thread I need to invite over for beers to help me on projects!). The new nuts were not that hard to find... 2 of the 3 places I went had them, but one just didn't have enough. Lowes had em. Good luck!
Snafu and Bundu thank you all so much for the help! I got my new shaft in from Great Basin Rovers in SLC today and had it in and going in about an hour! Not a problem since and I even had time to go get my roof rack today too! haha. i'll post some more pics of the destroyed shaft when i take them.
