Driver Side Door Won't Unlock Missing Door Lock Pin
My 1st post. Pls go easy on me. I am new to all of this. I have read many D2 related threads, D2 manual & workshop manual. Need advice before do something that makes problem worse. D2 is Grand Cayman. I split time FL & Cayman2000 Land Rover LT Discovery Series II
Right Hand Drive
Style / Body: Hardtop 5 Door
Engine: 4.0L V8 MPI
Country of Assembly: United Kingdom
Problem Description:
Accidentally locked Driver-side Door with door sill lock button and can’t open the door.
non working RHD driver-side door lock with Door lock pin removed prior or sheared off.
Won’t unlock with interior door handle
Key doesn’t turn clockwise or counterclockwise in the door lock, not sure if can insert all the way
Working Ignition key
no working FOB/Transponder
CDL Switch doesn’t work
Front passenger, left & right back passenger doors & rear taildoor all lock with door sill locking buttons and unlock with interior door handles
Since we owned, we Never lock Driver side Door. Seller said “Alarm was disabled” but how he disabled I do not know.
Car starts & drives ok but have to climb over the passenger seat to get in & out; a real pain especially during hurricane season
Since door doesn’t open, can’t access the Door Handle Lock screw on Door Jam
Can’t remove interior panel to access the door actuator to disconnect electrical connector, or interior parts remove door handle or replace door lock pin.
We need to get the Driver side Door open without triggering a SuperLock, AntiTheft System or Engine Immobilization and without damaging the door or window.
How could we expect LR technician with all the right tools & diagnostic/programming computer to unlock? I've heard some interesting solutions I'm afraid to even try (ie, destructive to door &/or window, has stumped our auto mechanic with some LR experience & the auto locksmith. Some promises to fix for $300 or more with no details on the how, scarier. Hence the question. I'm not very trusting.
Will this work? Or do I not need to worry about any or some of this?
Open front driver & passenger windows, unlock & open the 4 remaining doors, including taildoor, & bonnet & fuel flap. BCU inputs should be Front Left & Right Windows switches - Down, All Door latch switches Open except Driver Door, All Door lock switches Unlocked except Driver Door. If car tries to lock, it should trigger Mislock if car tries to Superlock, trigger Alarm or enabling engine immobilizer.
Put key in ignition. Do also need turn to position II or III?
Not sure if key will go into door lock. For sure it doesn’t turn. Not sure how BCU handles key in ignition same time key in door.
Slip tool to simulate door lock pin down inside of door to engage the door actuator where the Door Lock Pin should be and turn to counter clockwise to unlock the door.
The following conditions must be satisfied before the BCU will operate all of the functions of perimetric protection:
All doors and hinged panels are in the closed position. (so I leave open)
Ignition key out of the ignition switch. (so I leave in)
Inertia switch is not tripped. (a given)
If all conditions are not satisfied the BCU will enter a mislock condition.
Related BCU Inputs. My theory is to set with open doors, bonnet open, windows down, key in ignition & or in door lock (broken - missing door lock pin, lock barrel may be messed up too, can't turn key)
Driver's door key unlock Input
Front left window - down Input
Right front window - down Input
Ignition key inserted Input
CDL doors unlock Input
Crank selected Input
Ignition power supply Input
Passenger or rear door open Input
Driver's door key lock Input
Battery power supply Input
Bonnet open Input
CDL doors lock Input
Driver's door open Input
Left front window up Input
Right front window up Input
Thanks much! looking down into driver door, missing door lock pin
If you are able to borrow a Nanocom or other sophisticated OBD unit, you can easily disable Superlock entirely. That will remove the concern entirely.
Aside from that, your biggest problem is going to be:
Slip tool to simulate door lock pin down inside of door to engage the door actuator where the Door Lock Pin should be and turn to counter clockwise to unlock the door.
The door lock pin goes in horizontally. You're going to have to craft something that can rotate the lock pin socket, possibly by "straddling" the retaining pin that you can see is still in place. Even if you can get something in there, it needs to rotate by about 90 degrees to unlock the door.
Did the door open with the interior handle prior? If so, I would take the plastic insert out from the pull handle and check the pull cable. Maybe it sheared off and you can grab it with pliers to pull open?? That photo looks like you have some access? The interior door can be taken apart closed but will be no fun. I had a situation where my door pin sheared off. When you replace the actuator make sure to buy a metal door locking pin. CARS4x4 sells them. Great investment. I know you don't have the FOB but getting part of the door off to access might help. Maybe some of these instructions can help. Pulled this from an old thread I had saved. Some info on getting the top door panel loose/off.
I finally opened the superlocked door. What happened was that by mistake I double locked with the key on the door to lock the rest of the doors. Symptoms: 1. Door locks open with key, master lock and interior door handle. 2. Passenger door doesn't open, but the actuator works.
Solution: Open the window, and remove the two Phillips screws from the interior door holder. Then, remove the black interior window trim. Then, apply a fast, forceful push from the back corner to the front, right before the dashboard in order to seperate the plastic door panel, making sure to be careful so it doesn't break. Using a flashlight to be able to see the door latch, apply a lot of WD40 close to the part attached to the door. At the same time, pull and release the outside door handle. With the key FOB, double click the lock button, then the unlock button without stopping applying WD40. Pull the outside handle repeatedly while doing this. Begin listening to the superlock motor as it tries to work until it releases the door. After the door is open, clean the latch until is clean and free of grime and dirt. Then follow the instructions that Savannah Buzz is giving in this link

I have simulated unlocking with hand made tool & screw driver on a spare LHD door lock actuator. See pic. Not much space to work with in situ.
Unfortunately, can't borrow a Nanocom or other OBD unit. charge is 150 per hour, min 1 hour. 250 for one guy who says he has tools & OBD unit to unlock but can't guarantee won't inflict more damage.
May have to pay, but darn, where is the satisfaction in that?
