Exclamation Driveshaft Rebuild Screwup

So I went ahead and rebuilt my Double Cardon Driveshaft on the D2 today with new u joints and centering ball.

Unfortunately I got some PB Blaster on the joints which wiped all of my alignment marks off. I didn't realize this until the point when I was re-assembling.

Got it back together how I thought it went back together. Greased everything. Bolted it back up to the truck. Now I have a pretty nasty vibration going on.

Any ideas?

Since you already have it reassembled, maybe have it balanced at a driveline shop. Can't hurt and may fix your problem.

check all your spring clips that retain each cap and make sure none flew out. I haven't done any balance test other than driving, but I clocked my zerks a quarter away from each other so that they are not in a straight line (as convenient for service that may be) I do not experience driveline vibration at all since the rebuild, then again never had issues with it prior to it starting to chirp like an angry mother rabbit necessitating the rebuild..congrats on doing it btw, its not as much of a nightmare that others claim it to be esp when you look at replacement costs of a driveshaft ... or a transmission. I don't think I lost my smile while doing it more than a few minutes total, a six pack does help though.

Just have it balanced and wash your hands of it. The odds of getting it right again yourself are not good. Too many variables; it'd take hours, and in the long run be bad for the shaft and parts. Those things aren't made to be dis- and re-assembled 20 times.

It should cost about $50.

Yeah, have it balanced.
That's the reason I say in this thread, https://landroverforums.com/forum/ge...02/#post164811, to use a center punch to make orientation marks.
It also covers correct orientation of the zerk fittings if they aren't in the end cap.
