End All answer to stupid oil questions.
The MANN/Purolator or the same size "long" WIX filter adds about a quart of capacity. WIX even makes a two quart filter, but the micron filtration level is about 35. Pix of mine with PSI readings, almost warmed up, the low idle went down to 24 PSI. Rotella 5W40 syn. 170K+ D1. I think I was leaking a little around test gauge adapter, so high number might nudge up a little. Was 45 cold.

Just had to give it a go. Cold pressures are after setting overnight.
Stats: 88,000 miles; Mo1 0W-40 or Motul 300V 5W-40 since mile 1 W/ LR Genuine filter.
Before: LR filter & Motul 300V 5-40 with 698 miles on oil and filter. Ambient 76 degrees
After: OP Purolator and Rotella Syn. Ambient 78 degrees
Cold Idle: Both dead on 50psi
Cold 2K : 50psi - 58psi
Pressures after 40mile run.
Hot Idle: 18psi - 19psi
Hot 2K: 50psi - 51psi

Noticed that RoverMasterTech stated he didn't recommend the synthetic and stays with good ole dino. Any thoughts on that. About to change from Mobil 1 to Shell Rimula (can't get Rotella in Germany) and just wanted to make sure. Thanks.
Well, oil is also selected by temperature. If you are in the desert that might be up to 60 weight. In really cold climate below 15 F, the synthetics and blends make a difference on starting. In general terms, the diesel rated oils have a formula that holds particles in suspension (like soot) so it can be trapped by the filter. The extra cleaning qualities of these type oils are good for Discos, which tend to have previous owners who failed to maintain them. See this post for pix of engine with Rotella and high miles: https://landroverforums.com/forum/di...ghlight=sticky

is the rotella 15w-40 still good for really hot/humid climates? (FL), this winter we had one whole day in the 30's. 10 months out of the year we are in 80's-90's and higher in traffic or parking lots. hardly ever get below 40* F in the winters.
and what should i be filling up with a regular sized filter? 6.5 quarts?

Rotella regular is super good for Florida. Since you can buy it in gallon jugs just get two, and fill until you have put in 6 quarts, then idle and then re-check and top off. 6.1 - 6.9 depending on how much you can drain out of any oil cooler, and if you have a jumbo filter, a little more. You eventually use up the remaining on weekly inpections (Rovers are world class leakers - if there is none under it then there is none in it).
ok thanks! oh definitely. mine has some slight leakage i eventually stopped at the valve covers but inevitably i always seem to find a quarter size drop everywhere i park. :/
btw, everyone on here needs to see cars 2. pretty much the whole movie pokes fun at leaking rovers. haha

This might be your problem...try a lot less torque and let the gasket do the work, I made the same mistake.
