Your leak might be comming from filter housing and not the filter. Known problem in D2s. I have changed the o-ring and still have the leak, need a new filter housing.

Based on all the information in the thread I went ahead and changed the oil this past weekend. I went with the Mann filter W950/4 and Mobil 1 5-40 turbo diesel oil (couldn't get Rotella here). Oil pressure went up both in stone cold and warm numbers. Slight tick when starting up in the morning....gone. Already have 300 miles on the new oil and I can hear a noticeable difference when driving in the cab. Engine seems to run smoother and quieter all around. Thanks everyone.

What do you guys think of the Glowshift oil Pressure Gauge and the oil filter sandwich adapter plate sensor? Looks to be about an inch os so thick so if I went that way I might have troubles with the longer purolator/mann filter.

it looks like the quickest and easiest install and it will allows oil preasure as well as temperture all for $30.00. There are a lost of filters that can be used between the little LR filter and the huge Mann filter that are just fine, i think the mobil 1 301 drops in between the two in size. What model adapter number is correct for a 4.0?

Good question. We better get it right if we go that direction.

i know i posted this in my coolant sensor thread in the D1 section, but figured id post it in here too for anyone that was curious.
it will fit fine, with room to spare

the lens makes it look tighter than it really is, but theres probably over 1/2" of gap.

hope that helps!

The oil filters on the D1, I am assuming the same for other LRs, is 3/4 - 16. So all you have to do is get the adapter for 3/4 - 16 threaded filters. They have one listed on their site.Oil Filter Sender Adapter - 3/4 unf-16

Just checked, and the same filter is used for:
Land Rover Defender 3.9 L 3947 CC V8 1993 - 1993
Land Rover Defender 3.9 L 3947 CC V8 1995 - 1995
Land Rover Defender 4.0 L 3950 CC V8 1997 - 1997
Land Rover Discovery 3.9 L 3947 CC V8 1994 - 1995
Land Rover Discovery 4.0 L 3950 CC V8 1996 - 2002
Land Rover Discovery 4.6 L 4554 CC V8 2003 - 2004
Land Rover Range Rover 3.9 L 3947 CC V8 1995 - 1995
Land Rover Range Rover 4.0 L 3950 CC V8 1995 - 2000
Land Rover Range Rover 4.6 L 4554 CC V8 1996 - 2002

So there you have it.
