Nope, not too heavy. The spec page for oil gives temperature ranges. 20W50 is rated from 32F and up (as is 15W40). 10W60 is even listed on the oil spec page (certain parts of the earth where ice cream is at a premium). 10W30 is also listed, but the high temp end is like 95F, which is easily topped in many places, certainly in summer stop and go traffic.
But Kendall has that Super D oil with titanium, they have been testing it in fleets for over 3 years, see http://www.us-packaging.com/news/per...nium%E2%84%A2/ - less wear for flat tappet engines.

Here they do (occasionally) and Rotella 15W-40 conventional doesn't flow well enough at startup for my engine. So, I run the Rotella T6 5W-40 which is a synthetic and can be run year-round. No need to switch back and forth due to seasons. I'm not wasting money this way. A 10W-xx would be fine here too for year-round use.
Everyone's situation is different. Some have a need for synthetic, some can get by without it. Use what meets your needs.
