Just my 2 cents. I always bypassed my rigs as soon as I got them . Then one day a few years ago I was driving in a blizzard at about - 20 F. Throttle stuck open and it was no fun. Everything was clean and slicked up in the throttle body. I pulled the intake hose and found **** yellow ice holding stuff open.

I am now a convert. Funny how getting TWO in a blizzard does that to ya. If you live in USDA zone 5 or lower, keep your TBH in good order. In zone 6 or higher, bypass it.

Yeah LKQ usually gets pretty decent D1/D2/LR3/RRS/RR's just gotta get to em before other people do. I've seen em from stock, lightly modified, to fully loaded out with off road goodies. Best deal to date for me was the 36.00 RTE rocker guards! I almost snagged an 03-04 ARB, but I missed it by a day. I've seen OME lifts, metal rear bumpers, and perfect interiors.

They're in there for 4 reasons. #1 Engine overheated (most have goo all dripping down the driver side valve cover from that darned perfect LR TBH plate). #2 Front Driveshaft destroyed the Transmission or TC. #3 It was actually involved in a wreck. #4 it was flooded or destroyed from a natural disaster.

If we all went by LeatherBoots oh sorry I mean GOAHEADANDBANME's advice we should ditch all the front drive shafts with zerk fittings, and install the OEM unit, leave the OEM attempt of a PCV valve, and stick with the OEM rated 190/195F thermostat, don't perform Option B to the WABCO ABS Unit, and of coarse stick with the 100% guaranteed to leak TBH plate.

I'm not on this forum to spread fish tale stories on how to fix your LR's. I'm here because I love LR's with a passion and I want to help as many people keep them on the road as possible vs finding it at LKQ or on CL/FB Marketplace for 500.00. No auto maker is perfect either by design or by the parts used. Everything can be improved!

I tackled the PCV situation and came up with a super simple OEM looking replacement. It simply works vs the OEM unit that clogged up, at the valve cover (plastic baffle), or snapped off at the intake (plastic nipple). Then the Dorman 620-112 fan blade works as an OEM replacement vs 65-75.00 OEM unit and you can find it along with the fan clutch locally at most auto parts stores vs having to wait for it after you ordered it online. If you wanna stick by the LR parts list by all means go for it, but it's well documented what breaks on a LR, and those are things I have worked my best at solving. Continuing to just slap on replacement parts that are guaranteed to fail is not fixing anything, it's just buying you a little time.

I have 5 personal LR Discovery's 95 D1, 97 D1, 99 D2, 02 D2, and an 04 D2. They're all running and driving like a new car. Zero issues or failures to date and I do all the same maintenance on all of them. The Rover V8 is a super simple design and I find RRC/D1/D2/D90/D110's come apart and go together pretty much like giant LEGO's vs a lot of other vehicles out there which require much much more to repair/service.

And speaking of LEGO's here is my other thing I tinker with.

I designed all of these 100% myself, a D90, RRC, and a Bowler Wildcat.

Now back to the leaky TBH as mentioned by other helpful LRF members you can remove the TB itself, check the surface of where the TBH plate mounts, and if it's not flat you can make it flat, then install a new TBH plate with the suggested gasket and give that a go. It might last a week, a month, or even a few years if you're lucky, but you can also bypass it and go about your business and never have to worry about it again.

The copper/brass TBH plate mentioned earlier from Falconworks is very $$$, and on another Forum a well known member bought one because they were tired of their OEM TBH leaking every few months. The $$$ part they received looked like something a 1 year old made out of some playdoh and 2 straws. They posted pictures of it, and did a review while they were at it. I believe they installed it and it still leaked. Come to find out it was not 100% flat so they removed it and contacted the vendor and got a full refund. Their customer service was excellent, but the product was not.

Bottom line it is a poor design with 3 screws vs 4, and it is basically designed to fail. I have never seen one last say the life of the vehicle like an older RRC/D1 where the unit was much larger with 4 screws, and a thicker gasket.
