i just recently purchased a 1995 discovery and need help with engaging 4wd.
can someone explain the procedure on how to put into 4wd high and low and is there 2wd or is it kept in 4wd high for everday driving?
I messed around with it a little today and managed to get into 4wd low but it seemed to take quite a bit of effort. is this normal?

LR's are full time four wheel drive, NOT part time 4x4, NOT all wheel drive, but FULL TIME FOUR WHEEL DRIVE.
Back and to the right is normal, that is 4 hi, forward and to the right is 4 lo.
Back and to the left is 4 hi locked, meaning that both driveshafts are locked together so they get equal amount of power, snow and off road use only.
Forward and to the left is 4 lo locked, same as hi locked only with lo gear.
Here are a few things for you to read to help you get better educated on your new purchase.
