No. No testbook required.

Here's a video from Justin at Lucky8 LLC showing how to change the CrPS.

Thanks Dave. Great video! Always helps to see it done, even if it's a simple job. I guess the computer "adapts" on it's own with some time. I'm going after it this weekend. BTW, drove about 15 miles today (overcast cool day vs. hot and sunny before- not that that is it) and not a hiccup-- drove as usual. But I don't like driving looking where I can pull over at a seconds notice! Nerve racking.
Thanks again!

Thanks!!
No, you do not need to reset the adative memory, it will relearn quickly on it's own.

Default Update: Success!

Since my last update I was able to further confirm the diagnosis of a bad crank position sensor- on one occasion when it died I had an inductive timing light with me and confirmed no spark, I also rechecked the OBDII and found PO335 ("crankshaft position sensor A circuit malfunction"). That was enough for me.

I had already picked up a new CPS from my favorite supplier so tackled it this morning. All that whining and complaining that it's a difficult job due to limited space is completely and utterly UNDERSTATED! It's a 20 minute job that took me about 2 hours and all the persistence, patience and ingenuity I could muster. Definitely a job for a spider monkey. The plug way back between the engine and firewall is the hardest, and for the bolts I made good use of a 1/4" universal joint on an extension.

Fired up right away, drove around, runs great-- seemed to me maybe a bit better (smoother) than before.

Thanks to all who weighted in-- very helpful. Especially the pros who are willing to take time to respond- you provide a very valuable service. Now I love my Rover again- but I've learn to take it a day at a time.

Default Disco 2 engine dies but restarts immediately

I am having similar issues. My engine will die and immediately restart. Sometimes it will do it within the first 10 minutes and other times it will not do it for a day or two. Usuall when the RPMs are low. It tries to stall when I am cruising but will not due to the speed? The engine light came on and the code was MAFS related but I replaced it and the CPS less than a month ago??????? ANY suggestions?

Code number? Also could be something as simple as the sensor not being plugged in firmly or dirty electrical contacts on the connector (not clean the MAF, cleaning the electrical contacts on the cable that you did not change). Could also be crank sensor mounting getting loose or off centered, incompatible version of MAF sensor.
