Unfortuntaly I'm going to be pulling both engines out of my Disco's and was wondering if anyone has ever fabricated a lift bracket that would bolt up to where the six bolts on the intake are used to retain the upper plenum? Although it sure is much easier to remove the rear Trans to Engine bolts with the intake off altogether.

 

From my experience lifting it from the manifolds is the easiest way

 

I just got done with removing and replacing the engine in my F-250. (I know, not a Disco but relevant issue) I used the following lifting tabs:

I used them mounted on the front and back of each head - four total. It worked great and they supported the big block with heads, manifolds, and various other ancillaries - probably between 600 and 700 pounds total - with no problems.

If you can't find an appropriate plate, or are nervous about lifting using the intake manifold, this could be an option.

actualy it is easier to get to the rear engine trany bolts by dropping the motor slightly, unbolt the motor mount and just let it hang there it will drop enough that you can reach the rear bolts. Jegs, summit and everyone else sells a universal bracket to bolt to the intake, personally i would thow a couple bolts in the exhaust manifold hole. I've never been cool with lifting a motor by an alloy manifold, cast iron sure.

I just use the lifting brackets on the front and rear of the engine.
Two 3/8" screw pin shackles and some chain.
