Default engine wash SES

This is crazy. The other day someone posted washing their engine and then suffering poor performance right after. Disco Mike said he power washes his engine with no problems.

I was giving the ol' girl a bath and decided to replace the air filter (dusty down here in AZ). While I had the hood open, I rinsed the engine (cold) with a light drizzle of water from the hose. I gave everything a wipe, replaced the air filter and an hour later went to drive across town. At the end of my driveway, I shifted into Drive and she began to stutter, putter and then my SES light came on. The light is still on and she seems pretty sluggish. Sometimes smooth, sometimes not.

30 minutes after washing the engine it was dry as a bone in there. Any ideas? Is it possible I did something to the MAF just by bumping it slightly to replace my air filter?

Disco II 71,0000. Plugs/wires are about 11,000 miles old.

And yes....my CV joints sound like they're showing the first signs of pooping out but that can't be related.

I've washed mine several times w/ a powerwasher in 1 week trying to find an oil leak, no problems. I do have a question though, do you cover the ECU when you're washing the motor? I try to stay away from the electricals w/ forceful spray, but I don't cover anything. Maybe I should.

With a D2, that is not an issue yes, on a D1 you should cover the ECU or it may not start till it drys out.

I wash my engine compartment on a regular basis and have never had a problem.I like to run the engine for a couple of minutes afterwards though, just to burn off any water that might find its way into an electical connection.
