Ethanol E85 fuel...
Ran 140 miles, refilled tank.
Per odometer/calculator method, e85 netted me 12.15 MPG.
granted it's scottsdale, with zero hills, but that 140 miles was about half highway half running around town.
Engine pulled P0107 (fuel trim) but it went away with a premium fillup.
About to drive this thing to south dakota and back for hunting, will see what happens along the way. Will prolly use e85 where available.

12 MPG seems pretty low, I get much better using premium fuel without any ethanol , like around 17-20 mpg.and that is with cooler weather, hills, etc. That and the P0107 tells me that your truck doesn't care for the E85. But it is your truck and your trip so use what you want!
Looking back on your posts, you get 14.64 mpg on premium, and 12.15 on E85. figuring e85 at $1.70, and premium at $200, it COST you 46 cents to use the E85. and went 32 less miles on a refill. (prices from the first post) On your trip, using E85 will cost you about 20 some bucks more each way. (rough figures)
Sounds like a lose -lose situation.

Totally agree.
12mpg is crap. I get 14 mpg with my diesel dually pulling a 20' trailer.
Want to get some harder numbers for premium mileage on this next trip, 2500 miles in 10 days and from AZ to SD. Got a bit of everything in it.
Your 17-20mpg figure is great, I'd love to get that kind of mileage, but most of my disco driving is around a 10 mile radius of my house dealing with tenant issues and looking at houses. So I was kinda OK with 15-ish.
Sucks about the e85, I really like the idea of buying domestic fuel, and keeping my dollars stateside. Will continue to pick at this idea and see if anything pops up. Plus my farmer buddies that I hunt with really like seeing e85 used...

In reality, using corn to manufacture Ethanol is probably the crumiest stuff to use. Sugar cane works the best, better yield and such. I guess they gotta do something with all that corn.
I have played with generating my own Hydrogen from water to supplement the gas on vehicles in the past. worked great on my 86 GMC jimmy. have't tried the Disco yet.

We have a lot of newer vehicles in this area that are set up to use the E85. You will see the symbol on the back with a green leaf. Most fuel grades have as much as 10% ethanol in the mix, and it helps keep the engine clean, but also absorbs water and prevents your fuel line from freezing when it gets below zero. The E85 users that I know (and there are few) all mention the greatly reduced mileage, as the ethanol per gallon has much less energy than gasoline.
