you might want to plane of changing the hoses and belts, the first thing that jumped out at me was someone clear laquered the engine. As a former used car Stealer we would regularly do that on a car that either had a intake leak or checked hoses and belt. Laquer makes the shine like new, but ussually it hiding something. Besides hoses and belts are an easy job on a saturday to get to know your truck. good luck with it.
