Default Fan clutch has same resistance hot or cold

Only spins the width of a fan blade hot or cold. Can these fail in a mid position spinning more than needed when cold but not enough when hot?

I did a search but it left me more confused. I have an 04
My fan does not have the rim connecting the blades.. is that an 04 fan?

Is there a generic clutch that will fit my fan?

@Ben Matheson they can sounds like your fan clutch is shot - from another post On a 99-02 just replace the fan clutch with a hayden 2781/2991. On an 03-04 you’d use the same fan clutch plus a Dorman 620-112 fan blade (03-04 assembly is a one piece design).

That is what I run on my 04

sounds normal-all my clutch fans are like that, often roar when cold for a bit until clutch starts to freewheel. You have the "BorgWarner"fan-that is good since those fans do not fly to pieces like the ringed fans often do.Disadvantage of the BW fan is it must be replaced entirely if something goes wrong because the blades are molded directly onto the outer rim of the fan clutch. There are a few substitute fans known to work good on D2s including a Ford design Dorman aftermarket replacement.that standard thread -on fan clutches bolt onto.

I've just noticed some unusual temp behavior. 202 degree spikes at idle only when outside temps are in the 60s. If it's colder or warmer out I max out at 195 at idle. Temps when moving are unchanged at a steady 185 plus or minus a degree or 2 max
