Thats the problem. The only block replacement you could actually bet money on is a Coscast 4.6 V8 Engine ... It's about $4,100.00 and change and it's still not what i would ultimatley want. I am tired of 12 mpg...I am then part of the problem...I would like something around 30 and i want to run veggie and bio....

Anyway, The tdi 300 is much easier to do than the TD5..as no stupid computer to fight with....trade offs , a little noise and the TD get a mile or too less mpg . I would get complete drive train, radiator which i might do custom , pipes, wiring, intercooler, engine mounts, turbo, ecu if TD5 and automatic transmission. the Td5 comes with a very good automatic setup transmission wise.

As i said it's still in the planning stages so i will keep everyone posted.

Keep planning and I hope you're able to figure out a good, cost effective, and reliable way to do this. It could very well be the best thing to do, provided it there aren't all kinds of unseen surprises. Getting a coscast block may be a good option, but to pay someone to build it is easily going to get you to 6k plus once you're all said and done. I keep hearing people mention the toddco engine like its an easy pay you're money and the engine ships and that's not the case. When my motor blew in Feb, I called and he that he had two engines on backorder because he had to source the old Buick cranks and other parts which he made it sound as if he wasn't even sure he would be able to build these motors, much less any more. That's why I ended up just buying an 04 motor with 33k, it seemed easiest at the time, but now that I know all the v8s are prone to casting issues with slipped liners, it probably wasn't the best option.

Thats the truth and the most frustrating thing about fixing our solution is buying crap or spending 3 times what you paid for the car... You just have to grab your ankels like the rest of us and try to crack a smile....

I thought Todd put in Edelbrock cranks and some other aftermarket goodies to get the power ratings that he did?

If he's not able to build them, then that means that my only route when my motor craps out is to go the diesel route. Still, $2500 at a 1.4 exchange rate works out to $3500; and $500 for shipping everything to the US is $4k. Still less than coscast and ToddCo.

I know they have been done here in the States in the past.

A lot of my previous cars have been turbo'd cars and I love them because they're tuneable, etc.

What did it sell for do you know?
You can get those Izusu engines cheap, alot of bread trucks have them.
