Default Flasher Relay... Amr 4873...please help.

Hi everyone!,
I was wondering why part amr 4873 would constatly click? it is the flasher relay in the fuse area...as soon as I turn the key with or without the engine running this part clicks. When I have a turn signal on it stops and does the usual clicking at a slower pace, then as soon as the turn signal arm goes back to normal position it starts constantly again. I have got to say its sort of like chinese water torture listening to this thing... The replacement is $75.oo so I would prefer not to buy one and have the same thing happen.
Thanks so much for any ideas...

Perform A exorcism, to rid your vehicle of the Prince of Darkness ( Lucas )

Just kidding. Do all 6 of your turn signal bulbs operate properly ? Don't forget the side indicators. Also, have you replaced any of the bulbs with copper based ones ? European vehicles generally use different amperage bulbs than the States, silver vs copper. This can trigger all kinds of fun. Do you have any other electrical anomalies ?

96 Disco I's are prone to getting water in the wiring harness splices under the RF dash. This can get complicated. It could also be as simple as the flasher.

Good luck

I took out a blown bulb a week or so prior to this in the rear bumper lights without replacing it with another one, it may have gotten wet. it was the red one, not the turn signal yellow one...96' disco. I replaced this with a stadard american bulb probably copper, oops!... that may have caused it based on your reply?. However I was told by rovers north in VT that this is not part of this relay flasher unit... all of the turn signals work including the warning flashers... could there be a grounding issue here to cause a supply of power to go to this "lucas-lucifer" flasher constantly?

Thanks for the quick replies...

Theres more response from me at the bottom of the page... I have the slight whirring noise in the speakers as well as two windows not working, the lights sometimes flash when I use the remote key fob, othertimes just the doors unlock. Definitely some grounding issues for that. I heard that if I disconnect the battery for five minutes it will reset the system? would this be the case or am I likely to cause more probs?

Thanks so much for your reply!

The whirring and clicking point to A ground issue. If you remove the RF under dash panel and cut open the main wiring harness, you might see water or green fussy stuff.

i don't think unhooking the battery will help in this situation. reseting the computer is all it will do. grounding issues and light problems, including the remote entry sys. will not be reset.
