I’m starting to notice the smell of fuel around the filler neck. And not just when I fill it up, but also just walking by.
There are no leaks that have seen or even damp spots from the underside. It passed CA emissions just before I bought it (I don’t live there- but is where it was purchased from) so I know the cap was good at least a year ago as that is one of their tests.
I’ve also had some issues with it shutting off the pump when filling and not even being close to full. Is the return or vent line there clogged up or something? To resolve that, I’ve just put the pump on the lowest setting so the flow isn’t so fast, but I’m starting to think they are linked.
I would take a close look at the vent line for the issue. I had the same problem on a suburban I had a few years ago and with a 28gal take it was murder filling up the tank on the lowest setting at the gas nozzle. It would do the same thing your talking about. I’d start to pump gas wide open and I’d hear the fill neck fill up and then it would click off.
EDIT: Now I can’t even upload any pics. Was just trying to help the collective. Bummer.
Until the Mods correct it, try using the option “full site view” instead of “mobile view” and then try to upload load a picture.
Btw.. I’m on my iPhone.

Well I’m not going to try to post pics, but I fixed the leak with a a new fuel pump. Best part? It was $135 from rockauto and was a Bosch and mirrored to a tee what I pulled. Beats the heck out of $3-500 options elsewhere.
I’m glad you were able to fix it. I would have rather changed the fuel pump in you scenario than my recent experience. No symptoms, no warning, nothing. Driving down the freeway and the pump just died on me.
