The size difference is only the face plate. Your faceplate is the same size as the slot, so you still have, and can see, the radio plate underneath your faceplate(small plastic trim that is a pain to remove).

The larger units live in the same size hole, but the face plate hangs down covering where that radio plate is underneath yours.

In conclusion, the larger head units from other Discovery 2s will fit in your dash, the wiring is another thing.

So, I've got myself a cheap eBay Becker head unit. The single CD navigation one.

I've followed the Grom installation instructions. But can't see any blue tooth connection on my phone or iPad.

There is only one way to plug the Grom harness connecter into the Becker Cd changer slot, so that is correct. The instructions say to select Cd changer then connection is active. I only have a CD button on the Becker, not a CD changer, I assume that's automatic.

If I eject the single CD, with the Grom attached it just says No CD.

I can confirm the Grom is getting power. I get 13.8v at one of the pins. So the head unit CD changer port seems to be functional.

The Grom hasn't shown any signs, beeps etc. it doesn't talk to me and there is no indication of modes.

Has anyone got any ideas, before I message Grom?

The navigation on that stereo is difficult, but I am guessing there is a menu for CD changer.

Try to find the user manual online.

It is slightly tricky. Found a manual and have managed to turn on Aux mode.

Now, when in Aux mode i don't see Track 1, or 1, which means the Grom is connected.

There isnt a mode for CD changer, its supposed to detect one.

According to here. http://www.scribd.com/doc/16003937/B...English#scribd Page 138.

Can anyone actually confirm they have the Grom working with the Becker BE 4775 Traffic Pro stereo?

Grom are saying that they only support Alpine and they havnt seen their units work with this stereo.

Thanks.

Hey Cybercop. Seems I might be striking out with my Becker unit, even though it has a CD changer socket and is giving the Grom 12v.

Grom dont seem to have any ideas, but are very interested in getting it to work for me. Is there anything you might be able to share to get the two things talking to each other?

Something is happening because when the Grom is plugged in there is a faint static tick, which isnt there when its unplugged.

But when I have the Becker in AUX mode, the Grom doesnt communicate.

Thanks for any ideas.

Does the new Becker unit play the single CD and radio normally? As in everything works, just the grom isn't working?

Yes the Becker unit works perfectly. Single CD. Radio. ive turned on AUX mode (tricky sub menu button blah) and access AUX fine. And the pins are giving signal and power to the Grom. Just the two don't agree on something.

Grom are looking at it. They don't have history of it working with this stereo, so they say. I was hoping someone here has, and they can use that as a case study.

This is the stereo. This is the Aux screen i get, with the Grom attached. (Not my photo).

A bit complicated as a diagnostic technique... But what about trying to connect a CD changer to see if it's not a head unit problem?
