Default Heated Windshield retrofit/upgrade not working

Disco II '99 that DIDN'T come from the factory with the winter options. (I installed the heated seat switch kitand they worked great, burnt a heating element in the driver side chair, but that;s another post). I live in MT so I figured when it was time to replace the windshield anyway, whataheck, swap it out for a heated unit.

- I had the heated windshield installed. Plugged into the connectors on either side under the hood as advertised elsewhere on the forum (Thanks guys!)

- Purchased the heated windshieldswitch and sure enough the 'blank' plug in the instrument switch cluster above the coin tray had a wired connector that fit the new switch perfectly. There were several 'blank' plugs and I didnt think to check the others to see if they too had connectors that posibly could be the correct one (will check them next).

- Installed a new relay into the plugthat has the heated windshield symbol in the fuse box next to the battery.

- Checked the two 40amp fuses powering the heated windshield- both good.

Started the car andexpectantly pushed thebrand new, looking like it was born there, heated windshield switch.Theindicator light on the switch which is supposed to light up when it's ON, didn't light !! I must have missed something.

Any ideas guys? Thanks in advance, Dave

yep, the BCU (Body control Unit)needs to be re-programmed by Testbook or Rovacom to tell the car a heated screen is fitted

[:-]god that place you lot live in is huge LOL ............

Erm ideas, well there is no shortcut, it has to be reprogrammed as the BCU controls the heated screen circuit / timer. It does not have to be a dealer, it can be any independant shop, BUT they must have either Testbook,T4, Rovacom or Autologic diagnostic equipment specifically for Land Rovers.

The other "long shot" and im not even sure if its possible, would be to post you BCU to a dealer, they could maybe install it in another D2, re program it and send it back............

@phatduc,
I cannot find the tutorial for adding heated screens to the Disco II. You referenced one in your post. Can you PM me the link?

I am also interested in adding the winter package (lack of heated seats was almost enough for me not to buy this particular rover) so any tutorials you have for the retrofit seats, switches, etc., would be greatly appreciated. Also, your take on whether it was worth it or not would be great.

Thanks a lot, in advance.

Is there a switch for heated windscreen? I think I have one, and I don't know how to operate it if so...

On the one that I test drove with heated screens, the switch was on the dash, under the radio, next to hazard lights and rear defrost button.

The one to the right of hazards is for the windshield (shaped like a keystone), the button under it (rectangle shaped) is for the rear.

Also, when the BCU is programmed to know the heated windscreen is there, it will come on automatically when you turn the conventional defroster on.

I used a hawkeye to enable mine in the BCU.
