Oh yeah I definitely plan to pressure test. But I also want to go this route because it will be an opportunity to practice before digging into my own truck.

Heater Core Replacement (Range Rover 4.0/4.6/P48)

Interesting. I will have to see if this can work. I was wondering if anything could be cut. It looks a little different from the Discovery though.

Like I said before, don't try to "save" time by trying those shortcuts and hacking things up. Just follow the rave except for removing the steering wheel. It's much easier in the end.

In order to get the core out and the new one back in, the hard tubes need to be removed which can only happen with the entire assembly out of the dash. The screw that holds the tubes to the assembly faces the firewall making it nearly impossible to access it while in the car. On mine, the insulation was also melted into the screw so some scraping and picking was needed before I even had access to the screw.

So basically it's the pipes that keep the heater core from sliding out?

That's correct. I even thought about cutting the pipes but decided against it. The way the pipes are mounted helps keep pressure on the o-rings and cutting the pipes would have compromised that.

The junkyard school is the cheapest tuition for your truck, other than this site....

I've got a question for those who have done the job before. RAVE calls for you to remove the AC pipes from the evaporator and discard the o-rings. Is it necessary to do so? Atlantic British doesn't appear to have replacement o-rings for that part.

Does the AC have to come out? Is it possible to reach the screw that holds the pipes without removing the AC?

I didn't replace my A/C o-rings when I replaced my heater core. After taking it to an A/C shop to get a recharge, the A/C works great. Could be leaking but it's been working since November(4 months). We'll see what happens in the summertime.
