Default Heater core replacement...leaking at orings

I've searched and read a few threads on this topic, didn't find much except people experiencing the same thing.
Replaced heater core with the "shortcut" method; not too difficult except for the location makes things tedious.
New o-rings installed, lightly lubed the o-rings (insert beavis & butthead laugh here) and took a lot of time getting the stupid clamps on and I thought all was good but both are leaking.

Is there a trick or method to do this to make a good seal?

I'm thinking there's a better way to do this maybe using regular heater hose and clamps.

Thanks all.

Are you positive that the heater core pipes are set properly in the heater core? Could you take a picture of the leak?

I'm fairly positive, coolant is definitely leaking from both inlet and outlet pipe connections (more so when I slide the heater core in and out a 1/4 inch or so) so I've obviously not got them seated all the way. The two pipes were flush and the o-ring looked to have gone into the pipe all the way before putting the clamp on. It has to be perfectly right to get the clamp to catch both sides of the pipe connection which I thought to have done but still it leaks.
I'll snap a pic in a few and post it up, I'm afraid I've booger'd up the pipe or o-rings.

Well, if you have messed up the pipe you can do what I did on Tricky Dick

I'm liking the idea.
Where I think I've messed them up is at the o-ring joint but thinking if I have it all out I can make the connection correctly since I won't be working in a cramped space.
Appreciate the pics. I've attached where I'm pretty sure I've not gotten the connection tight.

When I did mine, the hose basically locked into the heater core and you could feel it lock or rather sit into the groove.

Here is my write up "if" you decide to do what I did.

I would recommend you try to use some kind of tool to get a lip on the aluminum pipe where the rubber hose will go over. I didn't but, I tighten the hell out of the clamps.

I just thought of something while looking at the pictures...

Next time I need to bleed the coolant system I am going to jack up the passenger side of the truck at the highest angle I can get instead of jacking up just the front end (look at the picture and do the math)

I'm not looking forward to removing the A/C Evaporator and replacing it on my 02 Kalahari.... Over the winter I used the heater, the other day in typical TX fashion it's getting warm so when I went to use the A/C I smelled a little freon. It's still cooling, but it's obvious my Evaporator has a tiny leak somewhere, and will need replacing soon.
