Default HELP!!! Shorted Battery...

Good afternoon All,

I have a 2003 Disco II with 115,000 miles on the odometer. I purchased a month ago at an Auction. I have spent nearly $1,600 on it bringing it up to par. All of the work I have done myself. Learning this vehicles little quirks has certainly been a journey!

To the problem at hand. While replacing the Power Steering Pump today I accidently dropped a long wrench across my batteries positive and negative posts causing quite the spark. Now that I have the vehicle back together when I turn the ignition to Aux all of the proper lights come on and beeping occurs. When I turn the ignition to crank I get nothing. No clicks, no sounds, no turnover...NOTHING.

I so hate the symbols on the fuse panels because it does leave the mind to wander a bit. And for the life of me I cannot figure out which fuse I may have blown. Can anyone point me in the right direction here? Thanks in advance for your input!

Just start pulling them one by one and looking at them, it takes 5 minutes and it's easy to tell. If none are blown then start replacing the relays.

Check your battery and clean and tighten your terminal connections, if you jump it does it start?

Were the pos and neg leads connected when you accidentally shorted across the battery?

Also ensure you haven't disturbed any connectors when swapping out the PAS pump particularly the exciter wire (thin 12V wire to the spade connector on the solenoid) to the starter motor. Maybe also you've not reconnected an earth ground you've removed when working on the truck. After these it sounds like the starter relay is not kicking in on the secondary circuit.

Can you verify you do NOT see the little red "alarm" light blinking on the dash as you are "cranking"?

I'm just checking to make sure you're not stuck in immobilized mode.

I'm such an idiot! It turns out that the wrench on the battery terminals didn't blow a fuse (Thank God!). While the truck was down waiting on the replacement PS pump I decided to install my SmartCord for my Escort Radar Detector. I used an ATC Add-A-Circuit on a 10 amp fuse under the dashboard. Come to find out that fuse must have been for the fuel pump or something rather important in regard to starting the truck. I spent half of this afternoon searching for a solution...even took a trip down to the dealership which yielded no help at all. After allowing a cooler head to prevail I removed the Add-A-Circuit and put the original fuse back in and the damn thing fired right up!

Again, I feel like an idiot! I remember reading in the forum where DiscoMike said that the fuses under the dash were very sensitive. Well, I learned for myself today after wasting several hours chasing my tail!

I love this forum and the help within it. I couldn't imagine owning this vehicle without the information found here. Thank you all!

Power steering pump is in and the truck is running beautifully! Now if I can just find an auxiliary power to connect the SmartCord I'd be a happy individual!

Contact Paul, He has a 2 connectors which tap into unused ports on your interior fuse box.

Never hack that add on electronic junk into your electrics.
You are asking for trouble.

Only use the cigarette lighter power.
