perhaps the bigger potential issue is the looming head gasket repair that the truck will invariably need. That will set you back at least two grand and likely more. Hold out for a truck that has already had that done. I will not cost you any more than one that has not had it done. My two cents. Phil

Hmm....I've read a few threads about headgaskets...but don't seem to see the precursors....and I'm not wanting to get into that type of repair.

Hmmm.....HG's go out on all of them...or typically due to lack of maintenance etc....?

 

A little bit of both, low quality gaskets, not using premium gas and not changing the coolant when you are supposed to will all lead to head gasket failure.

 

The SLS can/will be an expense.

Mike - well...went and saw the thing....yowsa.....as much as I felt like trying to save...i.e. rebuild the Disco II...it wasn't in the cards.

The thing was for sale for $2800...and it wasn't worth $1000 in my opinion.

I guess on to the next one....I just missed another one actually...a 99 Disco II one owner, 103k for $3500 - 10 minutes too late going to see.
