My 2004 was going in limp mode for the m s lights so I took it out cleaned it and put it back and now it won’t start. When I manually shift it using the lever under the car, the dash will recognise every gear except neutral and 3rd.

i need to fix this as it’s my only car and I go places. Any advice or suggestions? Thanks

Disconnect the battery, charge it properly, fully clean contacts and terminals bright with wire brush, re-install tight and come back with results.

I had replaced the battery this week and cleaned the terminals. No corrosion at all everything was charging full voltage.

New batteries are often sold without a full charge. New batteries are also sometimes faulty. I think you should check your battery voltage with a multimeter, then report back. I think Externet is on the right track with his suggestions.

Bad batteries have become increasingly common in recent years. I was helping my son replace his battery in his MB GL350 Bluetech, which is under the passenger seat. After wrestling it into place, which was a real chore, it was dead as soon as load was placed on it.

I now put new batteries directly on the NECO and run a "repair" cycle on them so I know they are good and fully charged.

Haha decided to mess with the sensor again before I tried the battery. I adjusted it by loosening the two bolts that hold it on, then twisted it and heard something. I checked my dash and it finally read N. It started up no problem. Thanks for help guys!

I’m glad you figured it out. What sensor are we talking about?

A quick addition to the issue: even if the terminals look good, follow the ground strap from the battery and make certain it’s mounting point is clean and good to go.

Glad you sorted it out.
