Does anyone know of a manufacturer of a dirt bike hauler that mounts in the rear hitch that can be used with the spare tire left in place?

While I have a nice 7-1/2 x 18 enclosed aluminum trailer that I can haul the bike in when I'm planning a long stay in a campground, occasionally it would be nice to just throw a bike on the back of the Disco II when pulling a trailer is not practical in more remote locations.

How about using this Roadmaster Trailer Hitch Extension, 11" Roadmaster Accessories and Parts RM-071 to extend the distance between rear of truck and a carrier you might be able to get cheaply?

 

I ratchet strap down the front suspension on the bike and toss it in the rear of the truck. Works great when seats are folded forward. Also helps to have rubber mats, as some fuel's gonna pour from overflow.

I've seen the hitches that are basically small platforms with a fold-out ramp for bikes, but I never thought about the fact that the spare tire could get in the way. Using an extension, I'd be careful about the leverage of all that weight on the receiver.

An old friend of mine that had a D2 used one with no problems. Get the anti-sway and the ramp kit.

 

In the days, we tried not to use the trailers. Rather use the bed of a pickup or get a Joe Hauler. As we all know, "they" keep a watchful "65 MPH" eye on folks that tow.

 

I have used an extension that I bought at Harbor Freight that has worked great. It is the dual one where I can put a bike carrier in the top and then still attach my boat to the lower ball. I would not worry about the leverage, the sway would be much worse and even then will only affect the hauler and not the hitch.
