I've been wanting to attempt this mod for the longest and I finally bought the gas props.
Hopefully my wife will allow me the time to complete it this weekend.

Welp... today I finally installed one of the 16” 60lbs gas props to the bonnet hood on the LHD side of the engine bay.
The prop couldn’t support the weight of the hood with the liner and fell like a sack of potatoes.
As I’m typing this, I thinking I need to remove the bonnet’s front prop rod to lessen some of the bonnet’s weight as I really don’t want to remove the liner. Maybe every ounce counts. Lol

I removed my liner about 3 weeks ago, zero noise difference in the cabin

I did this modification back in early 2016. My single 16" 60-pound strut was getting tired. I ordered a replacement set of 17" 97-pound struts (they tend to come in pairs). I wasn't able to find higher rated struts in the 16" size, but my brackets were far enough apart it could accommodate the extra length without remounting them. I popped the one strut in and kept the second for a spare that hopefully I'll find in the future when I need it many years from now. The single 97-pound strut lifts my D1 hood + Dynamat Hoodliner ably. It doesn't lift it violently nor is it hard to close. I chose not to install a strut on the driver's side because there is interference with other components over there.

With the 60-pound strut, I would still use the prop in high wind. The 97-pound strut is more secure, but I suppose it depends on just how windy it gets.

Once the hood is down, I use the factory latch, and also Sparco 01606S hood pins. I can recommend them.

Needed to replace my worn out 16in strut and found its NLA so I'm going to try a 17 inch 90 Lb Gas Strut.
