Just did this repair myself and it went great! You can access the harness plugin part from the top of the engine bay if you don't jack your truck up to high! I grabbed the connector with one hand and gently pried the other part loose with a long flat head screwdriver. Much easier than from below!

Great Write Up!!! Thanks a TON!

Got the heat shield off. It's got a hole in the front of it. AB says they don't stock it. Anyone?

Hey there,
In the instructions on changing the CPS, it said to check 2 fuses inside the drivers fuse box first... Which two fuses? I'm going nuts trying to find them. I've got a 2000 disco... Found the relay and single fuse inside the engine compartment; nothing inside the cab, just the fuse to open the gas door. Any help would be appreciated.

Default Thanks..

Thanks to everyone, for all the useful information, here. I just changed the CPS on my 2001 Disco II. I was given a $2000 USD quote and told the transmission had to come out. Thanks to all the details and comments here, I did it myself in a couple of hours.

My comments: I did this, from below, without dropping the exhaust. It helps to have long, thin arms, not short, muscular ones! The most difficult part, for me, was reconnecting the signal cable, as I couldn't get two hands into the space.

Gracias a todos!

$2,000??? What kind of an A$$hole did you get that estimate from? Were they going to replace the transmission while they were at it?

Ha ha. I was out of the country at the time. My gf took the LR to one of these 'foreign vehicle' specialists for diagnosis. She told me when she got the quote and I put the brakes on. To be fair to them, they said they were not sure, had never done the job before and could make no guarantees etc. For a laugh, I'd still like to call my 'local' LR dealer [100+ miles away], for a quote.

Thanks acg. I'd watched the video a few times but it was still difficult to actually find the cps under the hood! The exhaust was my main clue.

In your opinion, anyone, is this a pretty easy fix to myself or should I get a mechanic to do it, who will charge me $250?
