Default How do I remove the SLABS ecu?

Christ, I've spent an hour on this already. I must have a mental deficit, because I don't think it's supposed to be this hard. I've got the glove box out, as well as the bottom over panel. I got the bottom nut off of the bracket no problem, because I saw no way to get all the bolts off of the ecu itself. I couldn't get to the top one, so I figure I'll just remove the bolt from the opposite side. I get the SAI out of the way and remove what I think is the back bolt, no cigar. It's still attached. Send help.

Hi Alex, take a breeze through this Aus forum thread. The answer is there but as you have found already (like everything in D2's) it isn't easy. Good luck.

Thanks man, much appreciated. My previous search didn't turn up anything this useful.

Remove the under dash black cardboard shield with 3 (I think) push on / pull off fasteners (door trim panel tool helps). Remove the glove box from the dash (four bolts on bottom). Disconnect wiring from ECU. There are four nuts holding the SLABS to the engine ECU at the corners. 10mm IIRC. With some finagling, they aren't too bad to remove. Reinstall in reverse order.

Taking the glove box out is a HUGE help.

Remember to disconnect your battery terminals before removing any ECU's as it might screw up the memories in them.

Yea, it's a parts truck so there hasn't been a battery in it in months.

I'll have to wait a couple days to try and get at it again. Had to make a last minute run to Nashville because my sister had a pretty severe allergic reaction.

Thanks for everyone's help.

I hope all is OK now Alex, I can appreciate your concern having suffered from angioedema on and off for 35 years. The D2 will always be around when you get back anyways.

I've never heard of that so I looked it up, that sounds rough. My sister had a laundry list of allergies including but not limited to:

Wheat
Potatoes
Eggs
Soy
Red dye
Nickel
Laytex
Sulfa
Cleaning chemicals

There's more, but thats a few of the big ones. We try to keep a cap on it, but sometimes something slips through. She's ok now and we're on our way home. Thanks for the well wishes, I hope you can keep your angie demand under wraps too.
