Default Hyundai Purge Valve Error Code

I just installed a Dorman 911-800 (Hyundai purge valve) on my '03. The OBDII now throws an SES code (forgot the number) with a description of "Incorrect Purge Flow."

This Dorman part is supposed to cross reference to 28910-22040, and there are several auto parts websites that seem to support this fact. The LR part number of WTV100140A also seems to cross reference to the Hyundai part. Others have claimed it works as a replacement for the OEM part.

For further reference, the OEM valve which lasted for 125K miles was a Bosch 0 280-142 308.

Any idea why I am getting the "Incorrect Purge Flow" message from the Dorman part?

Not sure if you read the other thread, but people have not had luck with the cheap dorman part. Just grab the Hyundai part, or the genuine, or the aftermarket Rover part.

I saw some reference to trouble with the Dorman valve, but I also read posts reporting success. Maybe the older D2 vehicles from 99-02 are okay with it but 03-04 D2 OBDII throws codes?

If that is the case, owners of 03-04 should use the OEM Bosch 0 280 142 308 purge valve which is available on eBay for $40 or less.

Not like it's hard to change the part but it is a PITA to mess around with this unnecessarily.

I just replaced mine a couple weeks back with a Genuine Bosch purge valve (WTV100150). Got it on eBay from BPUtah for $72 and free shipping. Cleared my code and working perfectly. Yeah, it's always nice when you can save a few bucks but for that price it's worth buying the real-deal part IMO. Whatever you decide, best of luck...

Well, that blows my '03-'04 OBDII theory out the window....

Thanks. I'll wager your Bosch valve has 0 280 142 308 printed on it, so I'm going to pick one of those up for $40 online and give it a try. Seems to me the BPUtah part and this one are the same. We'll see.

And yes it does... I wanted to make sure that I was getting Genuine Bosch in a retail box (made in Czech Republic and NOT China). Too many things peddled as something they're not out there. Hopefully you'll be able to score the same for less.

The incorrect purge flow code can be thrown by other problems other then the purge valve. Anything from a faulty metering device in the air pump unit that pressurizes the fuel system, to a small leak at the gas cap can throw a p0441. It really is a pretty generic code.
