alright I see, I will take it apart again and see what it does. It's a pretty quick job. The worst is the fluid. That LR steering fluid is getting expensive Not sure if any PS fluid can go in there can it? I know D1 used auto trans fluid. D2 is supposed to have PAS fluid.
Ok, I’ll pull the pump this weekend and try that. I suppose you have to make a semi-thick bead if you don’t torque the back cover that much? Not 1/8in but not a smear either.

No...I just use a smear. I smear both sides of the gasket...but, I also make sure I run my finger on the inside part if the pump where the gasket sits, it helps seal...but not too much just a thin skin.
Try this...
When you're tightening the bolts on the back, spin the pulley and as you tighten you'll feel how the pump gets harder to turn.
What I do is tighten the bolts just tight enough to create a drag.
Well it didn’t work. If I don’t want the drag it doesn’t seal (at all). I inspected and when it ran dry at first it wore some grooves in the plate. You can see from the picture. I suppose that makes the extra drag and too much leak by.
These pictures are after I polished the plate a bit.
I ordered a rebuilt one by A1 Cardone.
Cheers
