They were placed in the back for protection purposes which works quite well IMHO. OEM location still isn't an issue for me (you shouldn't be messing with them that often) and then having to hunt down specific length wires vs being in a pinch and using stuff from any auto parts store. SAI equipped D2's or P38's does make it have a few more steps to gain access to, but delete the SAI studs for bolts will help greatly.
if someone could figure out a cel cheater harness I’d delete SAI in a heart beat

I purchased this kit from Tarheel. can anyone tell me once the packs have been relocated do I plug the red connector into the front coil pack or the rear? and just for clarification, the other end of the red coil pack wire is plugged into the drivers side connector.
