Default Immobilizer Disconnection

Ok, so I bought this key today for a buck 80. A BUCK 80. Of course, it doesn't have a chip and I knew that at the time of purchase. I'm just going to weld a small bolt onto the frame and have a wing nut for it to hang on in case I lock my keys in the truck. It got me thinking though, is there some kind of way to bypass the Immobilizer or even the entire security system? I live in a safe area and rarely even lock my doors or roll up my windows, and if I can buy keys for $1.80 then I would buy several just to have around. Plus, I like that it's less bulky than the stock key. Anyone know if there's a way to disconnect the whole system so you can start the truck without a chip?

Thanks guys!

I have seen this asked numerous times, and the answer has always been. NO.

By the way, I used a key like that for the first 6 months I had my Disco. I just could not lock it, or set the alarm, but it started truck fine. I never used my alarm until I got a FOB key and programmed it. It (the plain key)won't unlock my truck because the pin is broke and haven't pulled door apart and replaced it.

Interesting that that the plain key worked for you. I might just try it when I get home. I've seen quite a few posts about this but haven't seen any answers, even ones that said no. Oh well, I've been told no on cold air intakes, cat deletes, and more than 2" lift on stock arms also. I might do some digging in the RAVE for myself if I can't come up with anything else before I get home.

There is no immobilizer chip in the LR key fobs for the D2. The circuit board inside is just to lock/unkock the doors and arm/disarm the alarm. I have had numerous key blades cut by my local locksmith and refitted into the factory fobs when the case has cracked, etc. Just to make certain, I am now going to try and start my Landy with an old fob which the electronics have been removed.

Edit:

Yep. Started right up. I was able to unlock the door with the key, and start the vehicle. All while the key with the circuit board remained inside my house.

Disco 2 don't need a chip to start the vehicle, however, you do need to program(Nanocom, Hawkeye, Dealer) the remote control which engage the alarm and operate the locks among other functions.

Oh! Well h*ll yea, finally something cheap about these trucks.

Thanks guys. Thought for sure there was a chip. I'm suprised that wasn't mentioned in any of the previous posts I found.

Just to pile on, I used a plain key for a year or so. Worked fine.

Ok, just checked this key. Doesn't turn the ignition and only barely the door key. Probably because it's the RV1 instead of the RV4 that the book called for. Upon further inspection, the sides look a little bit thinner. I just ordered a set of three RV4 blanks out of San Fran, so hopefully those will get here and I'll get them ground so that I can have less bulk on my ring as well as multiple extras laying around. Thanks again, guys!

Yep, mine is an ILCO RV4. I didn't love the key shape, but it was skinnier and lighter than the fob. If memory serves, I got mine off ebay for $1.25 per key.
