The D2 at the Birmingham salvage yard has a new AC compressor, just FYI. It also has an ignition lock with key in it.
Those intake tubes are hard to come by.

Yeah. $40 on eBay vs $10 at the Yard for the intake.

$289 on eBay for the plastic windshield cowl!

The one rover I was at last week had a good cowl. I didnt feel like pulling it.

There will be a time soon, that D2's wont be at our yards. The fact that they are showing up 1-2 a week means people are dumping them at a record number.

I imagine in 5-10 years we wont have them anymore.

I've been through the same with BMW E28s, as well as 2002s and Datsun 510s a generation before that. Not to many years ago there were always 5-10 E28s to choose from at any given yard. There were 87k E28s sent to our shores during the production run between 9/81 and 7/88. The chassis is at minimum 30 years old. Now you're lucky to find one E28 between 4-5 yards. How many D2's were sold in this country? Do the math. Shane is right, except I think it will be 3-5 years.

There are two Harry's U-Pull-It yards within striking distance to me. Each yard had two D2s today., 3 2ks and 1 '99. All four were pretty complete. I got an uncracked cowl for $7 from the first, complete with both upper and lower gaskets and both corner pieces. I also got an as-new Hi/Lo selector boot for $5, and a serpentine belt cover over the AC pulley for $1 from the second. All parts are already installed. Some people like fishing, this is what I do for relaxation.

The tan one yielded the shift boot, and there was a new valve cover gasket in the passenger footwell that I passed on, figuring I'd be buying a set when the time came to replace mine. The cowl came from Allentown however. Turnover at Harry's is happening too quickly these days in my opinion.

Yep, I left that there for the same reason...but there were other new gaskets there that I took.

I think the heads were done. Someone painted the valve covers.
