Left rear hub replacement
I have questions about the sealants mentioned in the workshop manual. I may be just thick, but please give me detailed instructions on the types of sealants and where they are supposed to go. Thanks. I've got the wrench bending part down after taking it apart on Saturday. Oh wait, . . . how tight should I set the stake nut? Thanks.
stake is like 360ftlbs. I just put breaker on and bounce stand on it with a little bounce. its easier with tire on and center cap removed. I also find that 1 1/4" socket fits better than the 32.
here is some talk of sealants https://landroverforums.com/forum/di...s-63707/page2/
applied to splines, but I don't even remember what I used. sorry

The "sealant" used for the hub is actually a retaining compound. It's primary function in this case is to fill all of the spaces between the splines on the shaft and the inside of the hub so that there is full bearing. It also seals the gear oil in the axle housing and the water out.
As for the torque, 360 ft.-lbs. is 360 lbs. at the end of a 1 foot lever as measured from the center of the nut. If you weigh 180 lbs., you can stand on a breaker bar or a cheater pipe over a bar at a point 2 feet from the center of the nut and get the same force.
