Locating Source of Leak
Hi, I’m an owner of a new-to-me Disco2 and experiencing a slow leak under driver’s side. Fluid is brownish color but can’t determine if Oil or power steering Or brake Fluid or.... It is dripping to ground off of front radius arm on drivers side but source is above that. Thoughts?
Touch the leaked fluid. Rub it between your fingers. Engine oil feels noticeably different than power steering fluid or brake fluid.
Check under the brake master cylinder reservoir for any sign of leaks. Brake fluid eats paint, so if the black paint on the master cylinder is intact the leak is not likely coming from there. And while you're looking at the master cylinder reservoir, check the color of the fluid inside it. If it's anything but crystal clear it's time to flush it and replace with new DOT4 fluid. In my experience, leaking brake fluid doesn't make it all the way to the ground, at least not in quantities to be noticeable.
Power steering systems do develop leaks. Check under the power steering pump for any signs of leaked fluid.
Small oil leaks are very common, as are power steering leaks.

Fresh snow helps to see leak
See attached! Do these help?
Yeah, looks like brake fluid. Another good way to determine what's leaking...is to check fluid levels.
But yeah, wash down area, master cylinder and booster and underneath, let area dry, add fluid and apply pressure to brake pedal...and see if any new areas of moisture appear.

the Master Cylinder can often leak from where the plastic reservoir meets the metal body. there is a seal there that can deteriorate.
there are refresh kits you can get, but it is often cheaper just to get a whole new Master Cylinder.

Get a new master cylinder, which comes with reservoir, cap and filter. Add new fluid and flush & bleed the system. I did that recently, quite easy. Just take your time bleeding the master cylinder to make sure all air is gone. -> https://landroverforums.com/forum/di...78/#post751798
