Lockers and Gear Ratios
Anyone here run anything besides the stock gears? Would like to upgrade to get more power.... Mpg's be dammed. 4:10 or 4:56 is the range I'm looking at. I'm running 32" tires and the poor thing is more gutless than usual. Also lockers would be nice.
Thanks all
Thanks all
Another option which I’ve been considering is a lower high range ratio in the transfer case. It looks way cheaper than 2 gear sets and the setup labour. I’ve never been good at setting the backlash myself. Todco makes the transfer case gear set
Ashcroft Transmissions in the UK make reduction gears for the transfer case, might be cheaper than CA/US $$$???
The issue with transfer case gear changes is that the stock driveshafts are already kinda tapped if you're beating on it out on trails any. As for setting backlash.... You can buy complete 3rd members already assembled in a bunch of ratios from lucky 8.
I'm thinking 4:10 with air lockers is the best route for what I'm doing. And I agree about the driveshafts already at there limit. I'd like to keep the t-case stock on this one. I finally got it to stop leaking after the last rebuild.
You getting pegged too?
