I am looking at 2000 Disco II with 142,000 miles. The car has an excellent maintenance record. Second owner has been commuting to work everyday for the past 6 years. She purchased it with 42,000 miles. Front drive shaft was changed at 74,000 miles, no sign of leaks anywhere neither oil or antifreeze. She has been a coworker for the past 3 years without missing a day to work with this car.
How long can this car last?
Did she get a car made on a Wednesday?
Did the preventive maintenance has avoided the failures everyone encounters?
I am looking to pay $4,000 new brakes 5 new Michelin tires car is in excellent condition outside and inside 7 seater.
What do you think?
Thanks in advance

The Pub must of been closed that day... lol, j/k. Sounds like mine, I put tons of miles on mine now and it's been great. I just stay on top of the fluids and fix things before they become bigger things. Really don't find it any different than any other truck. Honestly I think most of these things get destroyed by cheap gas and no oil changes.

how long will it last? like any peice of machinery, it can last indefinately if properly maintained. Christ I had a Hundia with over 200k it all depends on how much effort and time you want to put into it.
If "I " were you I would ask to see her maintenance and repair records for the past 6-years that she owned it. look thru them and decide if you can maintain those same standards $$$.
Also look for big items like head gaskets, brakes, waterpump and the like. That drive shaft that was replaced at 74k is due to be rebuilt again at 140K or so. If head gaskets have not been done, you will want to start a head gasket fund.
the price is fair it everything adds up (maintenace & repairs) there are cheaper ones out there, but the repair history is what give the truck it's value.

Sounds like a typical DII that has been taken care of. If you do maintainence regularly these trucks are quite reliable. I've had 2 issues in almost 4 years, one was in he first month. The PO and myself did all the upkeep on schedule and didnt wait for something to break before fixing it. Sounds like a great DII to me.
With that kind of care, a DII can easily make it to 200K.

Our Jeep Liberty has 207k on it. Owned it since new and changed the oil every 3-4k. The engine has never been apart. It smokes a little in the morning when it first fires up(Valve seals) but other than that it runs great. These things have as bad, if not worse, a reputation than the Rovers for most of the same reasons.
Keep them lubed and change the oil, you will be amazed at how long they will hang in there ;-)
