Looking to buy
I am looking into buying an early 2000's Disco, but have never owned one before. I was wondering if there is anything to look out for when I go to test drive some? Thank you in advance

2. Consider a pre-purchase inspection by an indy mechanic.
3. The shop and owner manuals are called the RAVE and are a free download. Warning lights should come on, then go out at crank up. Odometer should not be flashing. Remote keyfob should work. Owners have been known to paint over or disable lights.
4. A scanner can show you any stored or pending codes even if light is burned out. It can also show real engine temp, the heat gauge from the factory reads at 50% from 130 - 240F. Overheating is a real problem because people don't take care of the vehicles.
5. When warmed up any ticking sounds under the hood are expensive to fix.
6. Budget for $1000 - $2000 to bring it back from the brink.
7. Shift all the gears, including the differential.

One reason you want someone else to look at it is that they will see things you might miss, plus they don't have the hots for a new ride which has made many a man overlook what turned out to be wallet draining issues.
