Default LR Disco 1 (1999) "Brake" warning light

I just noticed my "brake" warning light has come on (intermittently-- comes on briefly then goes off) and of course I am just about to go on vacation (with the vehicle) and will probably put the sum total of 1000 miles or so on it. Probably stupid, but do I have to deal with it before I leave or can I deal with it when I get home? Honestly I don't really notice anything different with the braking - I figure its probably the pads (but then again who knows what it really is). Opinions?

it could either be the wear indicators on the pads or low brake fluid, I would start by checking the fluid, does it happen when you go over bumps?

When I took my disco in after the brake light came on, they said less than 5% of brahewear was left and recommended immediate replacement. Better to do it now than go metal on metal. Les Schwab (a major brake shop in the northwest) really sucked on the disco. Screwed the whole job up...front brakes burned up in 5kmiles. Good luck.

always remember dealers are dealers. Check the fluid, then take the wheels off and look at the brake pads. That should give an idea of wether to try you trip. you say the vehicle operates normally. so eye sight is the best thing at this point. I had the problem with mine years ago and let the dealer fix the problem. my mistake. I do my own brakes. the dealer also advised me to have the brakes replaced every 15k miles. I average 50k, and I check mine every year. The light may just be a fluke. The other things to have check is to have a data link hooked up to see if there is a fault recognized. Hope it helps, gotta love a rover. duboff.

yours slips when the brakes are pressed and you hit bumps, that is your abs working, i pull my abs fuse while wheeling. if the brake light (on dash) lights up while going over bumps or down hill, your fluid is low, chances are low fluid when that light ever comes on.
