I recently noticed that I have a minor power steering leak. I degreased the area and can't really find the leak. The PS fluid in the reservoir tank went down about a 1/4 inch this last month. I was thinking about using a stop leak additive. I am not sure weather to try Lucas or White Shepherd. I will also like to know how much to use, I have read that too much can cause even more problems. Thanks for any help that you can give me.

 

I would use a power steering fluid with stop leak built in, just use it to top off the system until the leak stops or the bottle is gone.
If it continues then explore a repair.

 

I have had great luck with Valvoline fluids with stop leak.

 

Thanks for the advice Spike, by the way I just checked the level and it is between the full level and empty so I am assuming that the leak has gotten worse in the past two days.

 

I had the same problem about a month ago. The local shop told me it was the seal in the steering box. Not. Ended up being the pump. I replaced it myself. Got the pump from A-B and it took me about 3 hours. It would have taken less time if I had removed the fan.

I had a leak at my pump and used the White Shephers P/S stop leak as per the directions and it works like a charm as long as you drive and or idle the engine for 2 hours have installing the additive on "NEW" p/s fluid.
Lucas, if you read the label, which most don't is a stop leak for internal leaks, not external .
Order some Whitesheperd, you will like the results.

 

Thanks for the help. I am going to try the stop leak since the leak seems to be minor. Hopefully I won't have to change the pump or hoses.

 

Make sure you flush out the old fluid before install the stop leak.
